Strengthening Resilience Capacity of Populations and Ecosystem in the Limpopo Basin Catchment Area
Client – AWARD – South Africa
Location – Limpopo River Basin – Mozambique
Year – 2015 – 2016
Time – 1 year in development
Verde Azul is working, in this project, as a subcontractor of the South African NGO AWARD within the catchment area of the Limpopo River basin. The main objective is to reduce the vulnerability of the area through the establishment of cross-border governance and management of the Limpopo river basin, in order to increase the resilience of its people and ecosystems, through systemic and social learning approaches up to national levels base.
The first phase of the project (subcomponent in Mozambique) is centered on a collaborative and systemic consultation on the resilience of the Elephants basin, understood as a socio-ecological system (SSE), in order to understand the multiple vulnerabilities to climate change and others factors causing those.
Proposals:
- Mapping and analysis of stakeholders, climate of adaptation and resilience;
- Action plans, framework for systemic conservation and sustainable management resulting in improved management and sustainability of water resources and biodiversity;
- This involves experimentation, skills for reflection and learning and proposals for institutionalization.
