Verde Azul became an independent auditor of the BCI program – and its first work was carried out in the districts of Mogovolas and Moma, in the province of Nampula, which resulted in the verification of small cotton producers in order to assess the level of compliance with the minimum requirements required under the BETTER COTTON INITIATIVE (BCI) guarantee program, and propose improvements for producers who do not yet comply with the requirements.
BCI is an initiative that aims to promote cotton production with better quality, through the adoption of sustainable practices. Two (2) production units were covered, one in each district, and the audit consisted of interaction / conversation with the producers, managers of the production units, and a visit to the production fields.
The audit team also spoke with other local institutions such as: SDAEs and schools, with a view to raising awareness about the impact of cotton production on improving the lives of the population and on the level of children’s involvement in cotton production activities.
